Because New Year Is Too Mainstream - The Last Year Countdown

Because counting down for New Year is too mainstream - 9gag.

"The End is near . . . another countdown has started but the sentence is not ended with a sure mark."

It is but true that the modern world is no stranger to predictions of a cataclysmic end no sooner than today or maybe tomorrow or the next succeeding days - that turned into months and years and an unexpected line of interjections. And with such failed predictions come the line of disappointment from different people who died so hard of praying for extension and of relief from different religious sectors because their doctrines proved to be right in the mean time. Fanatics, the mass population truly is, for fads of mass extinction still sprout as if like weeds in a garden. Though there are no tangible and clear proofs to ally the said propositions of the world's end, quite a sum of people still look to it as if it were horrendous proofs of eternal wrath and nature's way to purge its lands.

From old school taunts of the world perishing at the "new" millennium, that is 2000, to Nostradamus' 3rd Anti-Christ, after Adolf and Napoleon, the world has become rather tolerant, not to mention gullible, to these accepted schemes. Fear-inducing these things truly are, but proof wise and evidently not occurring, the question still remains, when will the world end?

"Nothing is Forever."

Is it a matter of faith or a matter of religion? A matter of obliviousness or a matter of logic? Regardless, it is accepted that the world will truly end. Thanks to Captain Obvious's "Nothing is Forever." People have tried to explain with basic reasoning whereas science and religion both have some other things to say for themselves. Since the day that knowledge dawned upon the Neanderthals, the world changed a lot. People domesticate themselves to the fact that the force of nature is the true power that dictates the run of its course. It really does so prove to be very definitive. From then on, augurs and high priests tagged that whenever a certain cataclysmic even in nature occurs, it marks as the end-of-day-is-near prophecy. Take for example Mountain Vesuvius. It drowned the people of Pompeii in 1944 with lava drenching the people's fate to an embryonic fossil state. Tragic was such incident and it proved that the "earth was splitting" underneath them. With this catastrophic end to a city in Pompeii at hand, even normal people would say that it is really the world's end.

But apparently, it was not the world's end. People come by and go with various predictions of how the world will end. Be it on the realm of science to science fiction up to religion and scary things. As far as the logical mind will go, apparently, on one thing, these two vastly different sectors agree on one thing: the world will end and the day will come that all will perish and cease to exist - not to mention rebirth of new life and another cycle of evolution.

When stars collide with earth or when earth explodes without any reason at all in quantum mechanics - possible but dreadful an end to the human race.

Nobody knows as to how long the earth will still last and for some, it is futile to trust the world is going to end at this specific time. Even the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) admits that it is possible that the world will end when sun flares or CME's (coronal mass ejections) reach the earth. But such is less likely to happen in the span of around 15 million years. After all, the sun still has around a couple of billions of years left so it is quite dreadful had you had your clock start clicking.

The Boss is Asked
Worried About the Doomsday? Hey, so are we!
NASA's Frequently Asked Questions

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.

Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

Q: Is the Earth in danger of being hit by a meteor in 2012?
A: The Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs.
Q: How do NASA scientists feel about claims of pending doomsday?
A: For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

Religious belief saves the good by the concept of Heaven.
Though there are scientific proofs, one cannot deny the fact that religion plays most of the part as to why people existed in the first place. It has become a solid foundation to the values and precepts of the society, not to mention the mindset and perception of facts. Though at a war with some standpoints against science, religion still stands with its doctrines and believes at the second coming of the Lord, more so the Judgment Day.

Since Religion is a key factor as to why a lot of people are able to be persuaded to believing that the world will really end on a specific date, the dudes give you with perhaps the most waited doomsday ever. 2012 was the alleged doomsday year of the Mayans.

_______________________________________

What is up with the Mayans?

The sacred Aztec calendar is properly called the Eagle Bowl. It represents the solar deity Tonatiuh. The amazingly accurate calendar has been in use in various forms for more than 2,000 years. A Zapotec prophecy, based on the Eagle Bowl, states:

The Mayan Calendar - Eagle Bowl - talk about spacing. :)
“After Thirteen Heavens of Decreasing Choice, and Nine Hells of Increasing Doom, the Tree of Life shall blossom with a fruit never before known in the creation, and that fruit shall be the New Spirit of Men.”

The 13 Heavens and 9 Hells were each 52 years long (1,144 years total). Each of the 9 Hells were to be worse than the last. On the final day of the last Hell (August 17, 1987), Tezcatlipoca, god of death, would remove his mask of jade to reveal himself as Quetzelcoatl, god of peace.

In the mythology of the Aztecs, the first age of mankind ended with the animals devouring humans. The second age was finished by wind, the third by fire, and the fourth by water. The present fifth epoch is called Nahui-Olin (Sun of Earthquake), which began in 3113 BC and will end on December 24, 2011. It will be the last destruction of human existence on Earth. The date coincides closely with that determined by the brothers McKenna in The Invisible Landscape as “the end of history” indicated by their computer analysis of the ancient Chinese oracle-calendar, the I Ching.

The Mayan calendar is divided into Seven Ages of Man. The fourth epoch ended in August 1987. The Mayan calendar comes to an end on Sunday, December 23, 2012. Only a few people will survive the catastrophe that ensues. In the fifth age, humanity will realize its spiritual destiny. In the sixth age, we will realize God within ourselves, and in the seventh age we will become so spiritual that we will be telepathic.

 _______________________________________

Famed above all predictions is the Mayan's prediction of the doomsday. Technically, the Mayan calendar ends on that specific date, December 23, 2012, so it was likely to infer that the world will end on such date. Though it is not a clear account as to how and what will happen on that day, a lot of believers still perch on.

Preparing for death is not an easy thing to do, not to recall a fun thing to do - in retrospect, not even a thing to do. Regardless if we believe that this year will be the mark of the end, the dudes would say that we only have...

356 days to live!
or so regardless of the time you see this though :)

Maybe this is just a hoax -  another futile attempt to disrupt the monotony of daily living. Maybe this is the truth. The thing is, regardless if it were or were not, the way of living must still be considered. The year of 2012 is like a sleep ahead and the start of the year surely will be a blast considering this fated doomsday but know that the new year is a sure sign of a new life and a new time extended to be a better person in the likeness of what one ought to be. Enjoy the remaining days.

Christmas Cookies for Claus - Preparing for the Season

Make the man-in-red chuckle a little louder with the idea of crafting creative cookies for him.

"Desserts are always served first - in a parallel universe - for they crown the Christmas banquet."

From the famed Noche Buena ham that most families crave for up to the luscious chocolate fondue that rather affluent families can solely afford, Christmas feasting in the Philippines truly makes a significant mark to cultures around the globe. Boasting its heritage of Noche Buena and other westernized cultures, the Philippine culture of celebrating Christmas is a vast array of fused domesticated cultures from past colonizers. Different countries have been a witness as to how the Philippines can stand alone as a united collection of islands - not to mention the valiant efforts of the forefathers to battle for such stature.

The Spanish Armada : Conquering the globe from where the crisis had come.
The Spanish culture has been deeply inculcated in the hearts and minds of Filipinos for the Philippines had been under its grips for around 300 years. It is not much of a wonder that majority of its micro-cultures and heritages had been fused with primitive beliefs of Philippine predecessors. Perhaps it is the gift of culture aside from the gift of religion that best describes how the Spanish colonizers identified the Philippines - not to mention that Filipinos owe the country's nomenclature to them.

It has been a colorful celebration every year - Christmas,  thereafter and throughout the reign of Spain over the Philippines. Since Catholicism is a gift from the people who boarded staggeringly huge ships, the meaning of Christmas thereon had been intensified in a way that aside from consuming vast amounts of food and beverages, people would consume half of their times as well in  praying and giving thanks to God. Christmas was a day of celebrating the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ, and while it was an imperative to celebrate during those times, it was also that people should attend masses and the sorts that Catholicism requests of every baptized.

Top Dishes Served During the Spanish Era
UP UNTIL NOW

Old-school favorites during the Noche Buena celebration of Filipinos way back then:
  • Hamon
Is simply ham (from the Spanish jamon) that is baked and glazed. Fruit juices like pineapple, and brown sugar, are typically used for the glaze.
  • Queso de Bola
Is the Filipino term, from Spanish, for Edam cheese. It is a ball-shaped (de bola) Dutch cheese coated with red wax. With its festive appearance, it is a favorite at Christmas time.
The Star ng Pasko - Quezo de Bola
  • Chicken relleno
Is a deboned chicken stuffed with savory ingredients like ground pork, ham, and sausage. It is served with gravy.
  • CastaƱas
Are roasted chestnuts commonly sold by sidewalk vendors in the Philippines during Christmas time.
  • Puto Bumbong
Sticky rice puto that comes in a long thin shape and has a purple color. The elongated shape results from the method of cooking while its color comes from the violet pirurutong rice it is made of.
  • Bibingka
A rice cake that may have toppings of native white cheese and sliced salted duck eggs served with butter and grated coconut and sometimes sugar. Bibingka is enjoyed for breakfast on any occasion, but it is especially associated with Philippine Christmas.
  • Halayang ube
Is a dessert made from boiled mashed ube (purple yam) mixed with coconut milk, evaporated milk, and sugar.
  • Leche flan
Is rich caramel custard, made with eggs, milk and sugar and flavored with vanilla.
  • Fruitcake
A Western Christmas treat, brought to the Philippines by the Americans, but Filipinos have their own versions that utilize native fruits and nuts.
  • Tsokolate
Is the Philippine version of hot chocolate made from pure chocolate in tablea (tablet) or ball form.
  • Lechon
    Roasted pig

Lit stars of varied color intensities and hues shower the churches and vintage houses during the reign of the Spaniards even before December starts - peaking at around early September. Not only were churches and houses were adorned with beautiful things but also long tables inside each house and household; not by glitters and tinsels but by glittering food. This has been the trend during the time of the Spaniards.

And then the 333 years of conquered life changed when another country seemed to try and colonize the Philippines. Notable were the Japanese but no other culture clashed better than that of the Spaniards with regards to the Americans. From Jesus and old-school traditional foods to the spiced up viands and dishes the Americans institutionalized and the most famous personality after Jesus, if not during Christmas, Santa Claus, America changed the way we celebrated the season of joy.

Santa Coke - seems legit. :)

Though originally Germanic, or Western as perceived, in descent, St. Nicholas has been popularized most effectively by the Americans - as immortalized by their Santa Coke. St. Nicholas, or Santa, was known for reliving the spirit of giving every Christmas. If the Spaniards had Jesus Christ as the sole reason to celebrate the season, the Americans had Santa Claus as a reserve. Clashing though these cultures are, but such is disregarded - usually, because Christmas is the season where strife and haste must be set aside.

Our culture grew invariably dependent on these two paradigms therefore mixing up western with western making it a homogeneous mark for Filipino Christmas. Filipinos now prepare Christmas differently than that of before but not different enough to pioneer changes fit for domestication.

Since the man-in-red has quite a big job over his arms, children from all over the world have thought of a simple thing to give back to the person who gives them gifts every December and that is: COOKIES and MILK. Simple though this act is and simple though are the ways to prepare this but this Christmas, the dudes assess if your cookies and milk is good enough a meal for the jolly traveler of the world when he goes down your chimney pipe - if you had one.

Choco Chip Cookie 101

Cookies - ask him. The picture says it all.
A chocolate chip cookie is a drop cookie that originated in the United States and features chocolate chips as its distinguishing ingredient. The traditional recipe combines a dough composed of butter and both brown and white sugar with semi-sweet chocolate chips. Variations include recipes with other types of chocolate or additional ingredients, such as nuts or oatmeal.

The chocolate chip cookie was accidentally developed by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1930. She owned the Toll House Inn, in Whitman, Massachusetts, a very popular restaurant that featured home cooking in the 1930s. Her cookbook, Toll House Tried and True Recipes, was published in 1936 by M. Barrows & Company, New York. It included the recipe "Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie", which rapidly became a favorite to be baked in American homes.
_______________________________________

As per date, chocolate chip cookies have been a favorite since the day it was accidentally discovered - a cliche for almost any ingenious substance produced by man. And this Christmas season, kids will surely crave for it as much as giving it to the man-in-red in exchange of his fantastic gifts for the nice-listers. Better luck next time for those naughty-listers but the dudes have provided a feature of one-of-the-best cookies in town that you naughty-listers must know.

"Oversized, thick, with crisp outer edges and a densely chewy center."

SUBWAY STYLE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Get these chunkies manufactured at your own crib
1 cup unsalted butter (or substitute 1/4 cup golden Crisco for 1/4 cup of the butter)
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups chocolate chips (or coarse chopped, semi sweet chocolate chunks)
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter with the brown and white sugars until well blended. Stir in vanilla and egg.
  3. Fold in flour, baking soda, salt and lastly, chocolate chips. Chill dough one hour.
  4. Form into rounds the size of a golf ball and place, two inches apart, on baking sheet.
  5. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F. oven until just light brown around the edges (14-16 minutes). Too much baking will make cookies hard. Cool on racks. They may seem a little underdone, but will set up as they cool.

Makes about 2 1/2 dozen!

Come to realize this, you could either buy some must-have brands of cookies at your local supermarket and grocery stores like Oreo and Chips Ahoy! - all by Nabisco and Kraft Food Corporations.

These cookies are sure delish and will bring a pizzazz to your family's center table and beside the Christmas tree for Santa, too.The dudes leave you with a singular tip to tame the crunch-seeker Cookie Monster in you:

Cookie Monster Approves Crunchy Cookies - C!
 The Secret to Crunchy Cookies
by Cookie Monster

If you're after a crisp cookie that isn't burnt, consider the ingredients you're using. Baking is an exact science and if you substitute one ingredient for another you'll get different results.

For instance, butter and sugar. The type you use will determine the type of cookie you get.

Want a crunchy cookie? You can't just cook it longer to get the results you're looking for. That will make it overcook and be rock hard once cooled.

You want to use white sugar and real butter. White sugar versus brown sugar will give you a crunchy cookie. Use the butter at room temperature, but not melted, if you want crispier cookies. Cool them on a cooling rack after they come out of the oven.

If you want to bake gourmet cookies that are naturally crunchy, look into recipes for biscotti.

The name biscotti means "twice baked" and so you can expect that the result will be crunchy.

In fact, biscotti are some of the crunchiest and most delicious cookies in the world.

When the West has Least Offers - Eastwood

Eastwood is the place to be when bazaars seem old to see. :)

Whoever said that Christmas shopping must be spent solely on bazaars and night markets must be wronged when East Wood City has trinkets stored to offer the general public. The Yuletide Season has already begun and various stores are just around the corners and crossings of almost any street in the metro. Whereas quantity prevails quality these breezy days, malls have become an antique during the season of joy, for such offer quality products at the expense of economics.

From towering skyscrapers to local lucrative residences, Eastwood City and Eastwood Mall boasts of a higher living standard with amenities strategically placed nearby. Officially instated on 1997 by Megaworld Corporation, it was a given that Eastwood would be the crowning glory of industrialization in the Philippine context - only seconded by the famous Makati City - in terms of growth rate.

The grandeur that Eastwood City and Mall has reached its peak yearly - even exponentially daily, as its market value increases with top paying and hiring BPO's leasing, if not owning, within the vicinity. With its major tenants like IBM, Dell, Citibank and eTelecare, it has been not a wonder of how Eastwood achieved its profound name in the industry.

Local stars even hold concerts and tours in this place, not to mention holiday shopping and everyday mall walking. It has been a usual sight to see budding and super stars strolling inside the mall premises for quite a sum of them live nearby in the local residences afforded by the city. Accordingly, Eastwood Mall boasts of it Walk of Fame - a counterpart of the infamous Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Inscribed therein are the names of stars who usually made a mark in the Philippine Cinemas or local television.

Perhaps these truths have been the sole reason as to why Eastwood has been tagged as a socialites' haven, therefore making it inaccessible for middle-middle class denizens. From dazzling displays of light every night and its famed fountain, Eastwood has really become a spectacle to see, especially during this Christmas season. And since it has been tagged as a rich place, people are daunted to be in here.

Regardless of the fact that Eastwood Mall is an affluent place to be, Christmas shoppers must not have second thoughts of being in this wonderful place in the first instance. Since it is one of the most industrialized places to be, Eastwood has a vast array of shops and boutiques to suit almost any need you have - be it gift-giving or simple leisure time. Also, Eastwood will be having its annual sale, and since it is Christmas, there is no letting down with St. Nicholas this year.

Since Eastwood has its own staggeringly complete mall, it boasts this season its yearly sale. To see more details about the specific dates of their sales, here is the link for you Christmas shoppers to feast eyes on: Sales Galore. And now that Christmas is just days ahead, Eastwood will be open in peak and late hours - even so provided by the same link shown.

Why we love malls you say?

Since there are lots of ideas to consume those gift cards into, the dudes provide you with the best places and must-be's to spend those gifts from ninong's and ninang's who thought of giving in-kind this season.

1. Shopping Malls

Flexibility. That's the reason the mall gift cards take the top spot. If you don't have any specific gift or type of gift in mind, you can simply go with a mall gift card and let the recipients choose for themselves. The options for them to redeem their gift cards are tremendous.

2. Music, Media & Books

There are several stores around the metro that include all three, and it's a good idea for those "one stop shoppers." Buy a round of gift cards for everyone on your list at a place like those below, and the recipient can then choose between a CD, movie, book, game, etc.

 3. Clothing

Some of the better clothing stores are, of course, inside the metro area malls. But often times, it is better to buy from a specific store when you know for a fact you want to give an item of clothing. Gift cards to clothing stores erase the need for checking sizes and tastes ahead of time and simply let the recipient know the intent and spirit of your gift.

4. Movie Theaters

The gift card for a movie theater is an excellent choice for the movie lovers, but it's also a great choice for others as well. A trip to the movie theater is an opportunity for a family to spend time together, a couple to have an enjoyable evening or friends to meet up. Some would suggest experience is a far better gift than anything tangible.

5. Restaurants

What a broad category of opportunities. Depending on taste, you can purchase gift cards for many upper tier restaurants, family establishments and even fast food places. Most people love to go out to eat and don't get enough chances to do so. If they get a gift card, though, odds are they'll make time and have a blast.

_______________________________________________

Eastwood is one of the wisest places to be especially these times where parties are on full blast. Just walking by the city complex gives you a good time not to mention the branded things you could buy for reasonable prices.

Kids are surely off to malls dragging their parents to stores while filing into a line with a bunch of toys, but worry not since Eastwood has a plan for parents out there. Just like in various bazaars, toys are on sale in these dates. Compared to other malls without the same stature as that of Eastwood, this Kids Sale will be showcasing up to 50% of the dealer items - and up-to-date toys that kids would surely die for.

And so it began...

Have you ever had that funny moment when you cannot express how funny a picture is? Well, so does everybody else. Words may not be enough but it sure do when the verbiage states:

"Seems legit."

Perhaps one of the funniest statements to caption a picture perfect catastrophe. For example:

Now that is really intelligent a marketing strategy worthy of teaching the youngsters . :)

And perhaps this trending of such a tag statement revolutionized its way through a narrowly understood but widely accepted website, which is 9gag - extremely funny and hilarious but has the right humor to touch hearts and slap realities onto minds.

Truth be told, one can count the dudes as 9gag fans - or should it be tagged as addicts. Truly these extremely handsome dudes are. It shows for the name of the blog suggests that though this is a requirement, to have an online magazine, it can be assessed that this would just be a conglomeration of boring requirement-themed articles and the hooplas of thingamajigs but au contraire.

"Seems Legit..." will be an outstanding definition of what online magazines or blogs - or what have you, had even before. Though it is a fulfillment of a requirement, it is set to provide a knack of fusing boring school stuffs with the conventions of the modern society. Quaint, but plausible. Down with bohemia and up with "Seems Legit..."

For better grasping of how out of the blue 9gag really is, here is the link so you can have a gist as to how both interesting and knowledgeable this online mag is going to be. Click it up and change your perspectives the way it would be changed by our blog, too. Click here to understand and unveil.

The dudes do understand that life is really boring sometimes. And people usually are afraid to take a rest off the blues. But simply put...
Dudes do not give up on challenges, so...
A testament? The online magazine is fuchsia. It goes like that because tough guys wear pink. Random? True. The dudes are random. It is a characteristic that would surely make it up out of the, yet again, conventions. Observant of the rules but still has the pizzazz of a novelty magazine, that is what requirements are. Though there are a lot of requirements to be passed and it is like a labor of maintaining good posts, again, dudes say...

Challenge Accepted!

And before all these curtsies of an introduction end, it is a given fact that it is...

It is certain. It is December after all, now keep them likes coming. :)

Yes it is Christmas. From Seems Legit, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please do expect of our soon posts and see how it is to make a blog - or online magazine, like a pro. While the dudes are busy doing these things, please do enjoy your Yuletide season while it lasts.
