Because counting down for New Year is too mainstream - 9gag. |
"The End is near . . . another countdown has started but the sentence is not ended with a sure mark."
It is but true that the modern world is no stranger to predictions of a cataclysmic end no sooner than today or maybe tomorrow or the next succeeding days - that turned into months and years and an unexpected line of interjections. And with such failed predictions come the line of disappointment from different people who died so hard of praying for extension and of relief from different religious sectors because their doctrines proved to be right in the mean time. Fanatics, the mass population truly is, for fads of mass extinction still sprout as if like weeds in a garden. Though there are no tangible and clear proofs to ally the said propositions of the world's end, quite a sum of people still look to it as if it were horrendous proofs of eternal wrath and nature's way to purge its lands.
From old school taunts of the world perishing at the "new" millennium, that is 2000, to Nostradamus' 3rd Anti-Christ, after Adolf and Napoleon, the world has become rather tolerant, not to mention gullible, to these accepted schemes. Fear-inducing these things truly are, but proof wise and evidently not occurring, the question still remains, when will the world end?
"Nothing is Forever."

Is it a matter of faith or a matter of religion? A matter of obliviousness or a matter of logic? Regardless, it is accepted that the world will truly end. Thanks to Captain Obvious's "Nothing is Forever." People have tried to explain with basic reasoning whereas science and religion both have some other things to say for themselves. Since the day that knowledge dawned upon the Neanderthals, the world changed a lot. People domesticate themselves to the fact that the force of nature is the true power that dictates the run of its course. It really does so prove to be very definitive. From then on, augurs and high priests tagged that whenever a certain cataclysmic even in nature occurs, it marks as the end-of-day-is-near prophecy. Take for example Mountain Vesuvius. It drowned the people of Pompeii in 1944 with lava drenching the people's fate to an embryonic fossil state. Tragic was such incident and it proved that the "earth was splitting" underneath them. With this catastrophic end to a city in Pompeii at hand, even normal people would say that it is really the world's end.
But apparently, it was not the world's end. People come by and go with various predictions of how the world will end. Be it on the realm of science to science fiction up to religion and scary things. As far as the logical mind will go, apparently, on one thing, these two vastly different sectors agree on one thing: the world will end and the day will come that all will perish and cease to exist - not to mention rebirth of new life and another cycle of evolution.
Nobody knows as to how long the earth will still last and for some, it is futile to trust the world is going to end at this specific time. Even the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) admits that it is possible that the world will end when sun flares or CME's (coronal mass ejections) reach the earth. But such is less likely to happen in the span of around 15 million years. After all, the sun still has around a couple of billions of years left so it is quite dreadful had you had your clock start clicking.
Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.
The 13 Heavens and 9 Hells were each 52 years long (1,144 years total). Each of the 9 Hells were to be worse than the last. On the final day of the last Hell (August 17, 1987), Tezcatlipoca, god of death, would remove his mask of jade to reveal himself as Quetzelcoatl, god of peace.
In the mythology of the Aztecs, the first age of mankind ended with the animals devouring humans. The second age was finished by wind, the third by fire, and the fourth by water. The present fifth epoch is called Nahui-Olin (Sun of Earthquake), which began in 3113 BC and will end on December 24, 2011. It will be the last destruction of human existence on Earth. The date coincides closely with that determined by the brothers McKenna in The Invisible Landscape as “the end of history” indicated by their computer analysis of the ancient Chinese oracle-calendar, the I Ching.
The Mayan calendar is divided into Seven Ages of Man. The fourth epoch ended in August 1987. The Mayan calendar comes to an end on Sunday, December 23, 2012. Only a few people will survive the catastrophe that ensues. In the fifth age, humanity will realize its spiritual destiny. In the sixth age, we will realize God within ourselves, and in the seventh age we will become so spiritual that we will be telepathic.

Famed above all predictions is the Mayan's prediction of the doomsday. Technically, the Mayan calendar ends on that specific date, December 23, 2012, so it was likely to infer that the world will end on such date. Though it is not a clear account as to how and what will happen on that day, a lot of believers still perch on.
Preparing for death is not an easy thing to do, not to recall a fun thing to do - in retrospect, not even a thing to do. Regardless if we believe that this year will be the mark of the end, the dudes would say that we only have...

When stars collide with earth or when earth explodes without any reason at all in quantum mechanics - possible but dreadful an end to the human race. |

The Boss is Asked
Worried About the Doomsday? Hey, so are we!
NASA's Frequently Asked Questions
Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.

Q: Is the Earth in danger of being hit by a meteor in 2012?
A: The Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs.

Q: How do NASA scientists feel about claims of pending doomsday?
A: For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

Religious belief saves the good by the concept of Heaven. |
Though there are scientific proofs, one cannot deny the fact that religion plays most of the part as to why people existed in the first place. It has become a solid foundation to the values and precepts of the society, not to mention the mindset and perception of facts. Though at a war with some standpoints against science, religion still stands with its doctrines and believes at the second coming of the Lord, more so the Judgment Day.
Since Religion is a key factor as to why a lot of people are able to be persuaded to believing that the world will really end on a specific date, the dudes give you with perhaps the most waited doomsday ever. 2012 was the alleged doomsday year of the Mayans.

What is up with the Mayans?
The sacred Aztec calendar is properly called the Eagle Bowl. It represents the solar deity Tonatiuh. The amazingly accurate calendar has been in use in various forms for more than 2,000 years. A Zapotec prophecy, based on the Eagle Bowl, states:
The Mayan Calendar - Eagle Bowl - talk about spacing. :) |
“After Thirteen Heavens of Decreasing Choice, and Nine Hells of Increasing Doom, the Tree of Life shall blossom with a fruit never before known in the creation, and that fruit shall be the New Spirit of Men.”

356 days to live!
or so regardless of the time you see this though :)
or so regardless of the time you see this though :)
Maybe this is just a hoax - another futile attempt to disrupt the monotony of daily living. Maybe this is the truth. The thing is, regardless if it were or were not, the way of living must still be considered. The year of 2012 is like a sleep ahead and the start of the year surely will be a blast considering this fated doomsday but know that the new year is a sure sign of a new life and a new time extended to be a better person in the likeness of what one ought to be. Enjoy the remaining days.
